The 650th-Semicentennial Memorial Observance for Mimyo Daishi,
Myoshin-ji's Second Abbot
What is a “Semicentennial Memorial Observance”?
A Semicentennial Memorial Observance is a large memorial service held at fifty-year intervals following the passing of exceptionally important priests, such as the founding abbots of major temples. The ceremony honors the monks’ contributions and expresses gratitude for their compassion in transmitting the Dharma to us.
Myoshin-ji’s next Semicentennial Memorial Observance, to be held in 2026, commemorates the 650th anniversary of the passing of Mimyo Daishi, the second founding abbot of Myoshin-ji.
